Do You Have Money You Didn't Know About?

The State Treasurer is holding more than 3.5 billion dollars in unclaimed funds for Illinoisans. The State holds these lost funds until they are claimed by either the original owner or their heirs. Property is returned at no cost with the proper identification.

You can search for money owed to you through the State Treasurer’s website. Residents can enter their name or business name to check for unclaimed property. An estimated one-in-four people who search the unclaimed property database finds money or unclaimed property. Unclaimed property refers to property or accounts within financial institutions or companies in which there typically has been no activity for several years, such as unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts, and unused rebate cards.
