Reminders from Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP)

As a reminder, please visit chicago.gov/reopening for the up-to-date guidelines for businesses during phase four of Chicago's reopening framework. BACP will continue to enforce these requirements, with an extra focus on commercial events and parties, including those at residential locations. Please review the Residential Buildings and Event Venues Guidelines in detail and note that property managers are being asked to limit guests to no more than five per unit. In residential common areas, gatherings must be limited to no more than fifty people, with proper social distancing in place, including face coverings anytime people are not seated and socially distanced.

Please be aware the City of Chicago investigators will always identify themselves with City ID and identification badge and will never request onsite payment. Please report anyone impersonating a City investigator to the Chicago Police Department.

To make it easier to operate outside during COVID-19, the fee for Sidewalk Café Permits has been reduced by 75 percent. This week, BACP sent refunds to over 500 businesses that paid for their permit before this fee decrease came into effect.
