Safety Tips for Residents

  • There have been reported cases of alley fires in Bucktown.  Detectives are investigating. Please bring your garbage carts and any other object that might be able to be set on fire or thrown into your yard or better yet, your garage.  Lock up ladders and tools.

  • Make sure your garage has your address on it so that first responders can easily find it if they need to go through the alley. You can contact the CAPS offices for building numbers at 312-744-1261 (14th District) or 312-744-0064 (19th District).

  • Make sure all of your doors are locked including gate and garage doors.

  • Turn on porch lights, backyard lights, and garage lights. Sit out on your porch if you can.

  • If you see something suspicious, call 911. The police are getting a lot of calls right now which are then prioritized by 911 dispatchers.  Response times depend on what else is going on at that moment and what priority level your incident may be considered (ie life threatening calls are higher priority than property damage calls).

  • If you have a camera, join the Private Sector Camera Initiative

  • Make sure to get to know your neighbors and watch out for one another.

  • If you are a victim of a crime, please make sure to always make a police report.
