Earlier this week, Board of Review Commissioner Samantha Steele hosted a Lakeview township property tax assessment meeting. Thanks to all of you who were able to make it and I hope it was a meaningful opportunity to go through the appeal process and learn more about the whole tax system.
As we can see from yesterday's conviction of Alderman Burke, we still need significant reforms to the entire tax system to prevent the kind of unethical acts or public corruption that elected officials and others have committed, and contributes to a seriously flawed tax system. Learning about the appeals process is a helpful way to understand the system as we look to improve the taxpayers bottom line through more transparency and openness.
